Ok I know … it’s September and July is sooooo far away now but I just couldn’t bring myself to post an ‘August Empties’ post and miss a month! The end of July and beginning of August were so busy for me on a work level that I had no time to blog at all! Then, as you’ll know if you follow me on Instagram … I’ve been in Florida for two weeks! So … with a list as long as my arm of things to blog about, let’s play catch up and show you my empties from July! Warning … you may want to make a cuppa before you sit down to read this!
**Post contains PR Samples**
Hylamide High-Efficiency Face Cleaner
Described as: Highly-efficient, balancing micro-emulsion brings together oils, esters and water-compatible cleaners into one advanced formula that works like an oil cleaner but acts like a water-based one. This cleanser is a strange consistency as it as they describe it, kind of like and oil but also like a water based one. I used this as both a makeup remover and also tried it as a second cleanse and it worked well as both. My only issue with this was that if used on my eyes, it stung badly! It’s not suitable for eye makeup removal which is something I look for in a Makeup remover but as a second cleanse it worked fine and didn’t leave any oily residue on my skin. I would recommend it as a cleanser but wouldn’t at this moment repurchase. In part because I have so many other cleansers to use but also as it stung my eyes, there’s other cleansers I would prefer to use. Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer
This was sent to me last year by Influenster and I reviewed it at the time, which you can see here: https://beautyandtheballroom.com/2018/06/10/rimmel-match-perfection-stay-matte/ I don’t wear tons of concealer so this really has lasted a long time! My opinion on this hasn’t changed. It provided me with enough coverage as my under-eye area isn’t too dark but also provided a highlight, especially when tanned for a dance competition! I haven’t repurchased yet but only because I’m trying to uses up what I have but especially given the price point of this, I highly recommend trying it!
Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water
I won’t go too much into this product as I’ve reviewed it in my empties previously so I will just say I do repurchase this, more as an ‘as and when needed‘ kind of product, it’s not a regular in my routine or anything but it’s great for cleaning up makeup mistakes!
Pixi Rose Caviar Essence
As a Pixi fan I really wanted to try this product … as I do with everything that Pixi release! Haha! It is a lightweight serum that has these little flower oil particles which melt into the skin when applied. It contains Rose Flow oil to help moisturise and restore, Anise Extract to balance and heal along with Mulberry Extract to brighten the skin. I found I wanted to liken the scent to something familiar but couldn’t quite put my finger on! It feels amazing on the skin and the scent didn’t put me off, I just wish I knew what it reminded me of!! I would repurchase but haven’t. I didn’t notice any difference in my skin as such but it was a nice moisturising addition to my routine.
Got2b glued Spray
Although just a miniature, this hairspray packs a punch! I’ve used this spray for a few years for my dance competition hair styles and it keeps every hair in place perfectly. It lasts all day but brushes out so easily which given the strength of the hold. I would absolutely recommend this and have more cans in my stash!
I thought I’d group the miniatures together otherwise I’ll never actually get through this post!! The three mascaras by Milk Makeup, Tarte and Benefit. I liked all three but by far the best is the Benefit Bad Gal Bang. The wand is between a brush and a comb so perfect for me as I tend to be a little clumsy with the fatter bristle brushes! Dior perfume was lovely and light … I think I reviewed this one in my June empties post. Hourglass No 28 Primer serum was a sample I picked up in Liberty. I used it under a few foundations and it worked really well. It has a sticky consistency I found to begin with but under foundation it seemed to do it’s job and helped my foundation look great but also stay on for longer. Finally the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation … I absolutely loved this! The sample size provided by the counter in Fenwicks lasted for so long which gave me plenty of chances to try it! It’s one of the best foundations I have tried. Light to Medium coverage but buildable, very comfortable foundation to wear, didn’t cake up and lasted really well. This is on my wish list to buy!!
Mac Brow Gel
Quite simply, does what it says … a clear brow gel that helps keep brows brushed and in place. This was in my pro-kit and would repurchase however I do also use clear mascara for the same purpose!
Urban Decay Razor Sharp Eyeliner
If you’ve seen me posting on Instagram about eye liners you’ll have seen me mention this before, plus it will have appeared in my empties at some point. I won’t say too much about this purely because it’s been discontinued, much to my disappointment! It was THE best liquid eyeliner that I’ve ever used. Easy to use, true colour and lasted literally all day, even for a dance comp applied early morning and removed late at night! I’m hoping and praying this comes back!! PLEASE URBAN DECAY!!!!!
Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner
This is another item from my pro kit, and one I’ve repurchased a few times now. It’s a true black liner that is easy to apply and stays in place. It’s super easy to work with so I have replaced this already. This was the black shade but I also have this in brown which gives a much softer finish to a natural eye look.
Real Techniques Complexion Sponge
Again from my pro kit but I also have a few of these in my personal kit too. I tend to use the original pink Beauty Blender for my foundation but this is a close second and in fact probably the only other makeup sponge that I’ve been happy to buy again! I have these in my kit and they’re thoroughly cleaned after every use but I do keep an eye on them for signs that they need to be thrown away. I highly recommend these and will continue to purchase.
Mac Paint Pot – Painterly
I have a few eyeshadow primers and usually swear by the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Eden however these paint pots by Mac are fantastic either on their own or as a primer. This particular shade ‘Painterly’ is a very light neutral pink shade that gives a great base for powder shadows. I use this in my kit a lot and have a new one open and on the go. I also have it in ‘Soft Ochre’ but I find this to be a little bit drying and the shade ‘Groundwork’ which is great as a base for a good smokey eye.
Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Scrub
I’ve mentioned this previously in empties posts and it continues to be something I love to use and will repurchase. This sugar crush body scrub has a wonderful lime scent which is really refreshing. It leaves my skin exfoliated of dead skin and feeling smooth without feeling stripped. It’s great as a general scrub or as a prep prior to my spray tans or even after to help remove it. I will continue to use this again and again.
Clinique Moisture Surge Spray
I probably got this in a set with my usual Moisture Surge Moisturiser which I use every day. This spray is a hydrating spritz so I have been using this as a refresher during the day. It’s lovely and light and doesn’t disturb my makeup when sprayed over the top. I have bought the bigger bottle in the past and would again – but for now I have a few of these little handbag sizes which are perfect!
Magic Organic Apothecaries Aphrodite Oil
I bought this oil from a local shop called The Artizans in Overton. Its a lovely blend of Rosehip, Damask Rose, Yarrow and Geraniuim. I love it! I use this as part of my evening skincare routine and it works well to seal in the products I’ve layered before it. It absorbs well into my skin and leaves it feeling hydrated the next day. I have a new one of these and can highly recommend it!
Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream
I picked this up in Sephora on a trip to New York. It smells AMAZING!! There’s no other way to put it! It reminds me of holidays and is really uplifting. A rich, hydrating body cream that is absorbed well into the skin leaving it feeling soft and hydrated. I have the body spray of this also and LOVE it! I will definitely buy this again at some point – the perfect addition to a body routine following the Soap & Glory scrub!
Philip Kingsley Elasticizer
This was part of the M&S Beauty Advent calendar in 2018 which was gifted to me. I’ve used other versions of this and loved it but thought the scent of this Pomegranate and Casis was the best one I’ve tried! Click here to see more about it! It leaves my hair feeling super soft, I would definitely repurchase this.
Caudalie Vinoperfect Essence
I think I received this as a gift with purchase at some point and I have to admit it sat in my draw for a while! I added this to my routine and it’s a nice essence to use. I can’t say I noticed any major changes with my skin but as I liked using it I did buy a full size bottle when I was in New York last year but this little bottle lasted ages so I’m yet open the bigger one! I will review this again when I’ve been using it regularly.
Clarins Re-Move Micellar Cleansing Milk
During an event last year with Clarins and Caroline Hirons, I wanted to try this cleansing milk as it sounded great. It is a really effective makeup remover which was fine around my eyes (a big test for me with makeup remover given how many of them sting my eyes!) and doesn’t leave my skin feeling stripped. If anything it feels quite hydrated. I would repurchase this again. Despite this Clarins range being aimed at teens to young adults, a product like this is suitable for anyone!
If you’ve made it to the end, well done, and thank you for sticking with me!!
