This year has been one full of change, full of stepping out of my comfort zone and full of saying ‘wow, where did the time go?’ I thought I would take a look back at 2018 and see just where that time went!!
The first quarter of the year was super busy for me, yet comparably quiet in terms of my blog. Finding time to write posts with everything going on was quite a challenge! That said, in March, I was sent the most amazing PR package from Marks & Spencer Beauty containing some beautiful makeup from the Rosie for Autograph collection. In April I received some lovely skincare from Antipodes which I had never tried before so was keen to review it being the skincare addict that I am!! In May, I was invited to visit and review the Barn at Avington. A stunning wedding venue in Hampshire with a whole host of possibilities to make it the perfect place for a magical day! August was another PR package, this time from Josh Wood Colour. Check out that post for more on what I thought of the products I was sent. I reached 2000 blog subscribers in September! A major achievement for me and one I was super grateful to get to given how quiet my blog had been! During October I attempted to take part in ‘Blogtober’ which unfortunately I just could not keep up with … I honestly have no idea where 2018 disappeared to … I never seemed to have enough time to do what I needed to do! I did however receive another skincare package from Antipodes in October, which I posted and initial reactions post for, then completed with a fuller review after using the products for a while which can be found here! December saw my Instagram reach 2500 followers and my final PR package of the year in the form of one of my favourite treats … The M&S Beauty Advent Calendar, which featured for the first 25 days of December on the blog with details on what each little box contained. 25 days of treats and 25 ‘Blogmas’ posts 😛
This year saw the start of my ‘Gold’ Level journey. Two years is spent at each grade in the medal system and 2018 was my first year at Gold. I’ve experienced some amazing competitions this year! It’s easy to base success of dancing by placings in finals but the real success with dancing is coming off the dance floor knowing that I’ve danced better than before. Eyes are always on the prize of a trophy but it doesn’t define my ability as a dancer if at a competition I haven’t made the final as I can only control what I do on the day and not who else is there or the Judge’s opinion!
At Lymington in January, I placed 2nd in Ballroom and 4th in Latin followed by a 3rd place Ballroom and 3rd place Latin in Gillingham in April. In May, we attended a different competition venue, where in my round I was the ONLY DANCER ON THE FLOOR!!! Demo time for me in both Ballroom and Latin. I always thought that I would completely freak out being the only one on the floor but I actually enjoyed it as I danced Viennese Waltz and Samba. I of course look at the videos criticising myself but to go out and dance it was an achievement for me! A few weeks later we attended another new venue and I wasn’t on my own there but placed 5th in Ballroom and won the Latin!! In July, back to Gillingham and winning the Ballroom and placing 3rd in Latin. September saw yet another Demo scenario as I was back to Lymington but this time I was the only one on the floor for Latin and won the Ballroom section against two other dancers.
In November the National Grand Finals were held in Blackpool. You can read all about that here: Blackpool National Grand Finals!
Well, this year has definitely been THE year when it comes to work! I started the year undertaking my certificate in Professional Makeup Artistry and after plenty of practice and getting my hands on as many faces as possible, I started to advertise as Freelance and bookings came in thick and fast! Prom makeup, Bridal makeup, styled photoshoots, branding photoshoots, brand advertisement videos, night out makeup, party and festival makeup – it was almost a bit of a blur!! I started to attend networking events which I did despite my anxiety and met some amazing people who I now class as friends as well as clients. It’s been fantastic getting to meet new people, try out makeup looks from natural and classic to dance makeup and fashion! I’m super excited about 2019!! 2018 has been a hugely busy year! Starting with a trip to Iceland which I booked for my Hubby’s 40th Birthday as a surprise. We were able to see a glimmer of the Northern Lights which was simply amazing! Iceland is a beautiful country and I wrote posts about our trip there … you can find them here:
- Iceland Day 1 – Chasing the Northern Lights
- Iceland Day 2 – Golden Circle Tour and Blue Lagoon
- Iceland Day 3 – Snow and The City
In August we had a family holiday in Spain for a week. My youngest son has always wanted to go to Spain so we went to Fuengirola as a base and travelled around seeing Gibraltar, Marbella Old Town, Puerto Banus, Mijas Pueblo and lots of other Spanish places in the week we were there.
Our last trip was one I had no idea about! I am yet to complete the blog posts on this whole trip but if you’ve seen my recent post about my birthday, you’ll know my Hubby surprised me BIG TIME with a trip to New York! Having planned, booked, arranged and done just about everything to do with the trip and managing to keep it from me until my Birthday was most impressive! You can read about the surprise here! My Birthday Surprise!
So now, it’s 7.30pm on Monday 31st December 2018. I’m off to get ready for New Year’s Eve at my Mum’s house with family – the best way to see in the New Year in my Opinion!
To all of my followers, occasional readers and anyone who clicks through from any other links, THANK YOU! There’s plenty more posts to come in 2019!
