#Makeupmusthaveschallenge Day 25

Nails of the Day!

My nails never hold nail polish for longer than a couple of days so my friends who both use a gel kit at home that you can get on eBay said what they use would probably work better so on the last day of work before Christmas I sat down with a cuppa while Gemma did my nails 😊 talk about a morning pamper!! 😜

Using Bluesky Build Up Gel followed by Bluesky Gel polish and a top coat the layers were applied and cured under a UV lamp one by one leaving a beautifully Christmas nail colour of Red with a gold glitter.

It’s now Thursday 29th and one of them has peeled off but they’ve essentially lasted me almost a week without any problems.  Usually by now all polish would be gone or be majority chipped!  I am now considering buying the lamp and Gel polishes as they’re pretty cheap to buy in comparison to many and I already know that so called ‘Gel polish’ by a few brands doesn’t last any longer than a standard nail colour.

So there’s my Nails of the Day!  If you have any suggestions of how to get normal polish to stay on without chipping or any products you’d recommend please let me know!! Xx

    Looks nice!

In regards to regular nail polish… it’ll last longer if you reapply your top coat every other day (or every day if you want to). Top coat, just like nail polish, simply wears off, so just reapply it.

It’s also important to keep your nails flexible and elastic because bone-dry nails are prone to chiping. Just moisturise your hands (don’t forget your cuticles and your nails – no matter if they’re painted or not) regularly. And I don’t mean twice a week, but more like 4 or 5 times daily. And make sure you moisturise your hands before you go to bed. This is really a simple trick, but it’ll help your nails retain moisture.

And when you notice tip wear, either ‘fix’ your tips with polish and / or apply top coat again. Once there’s tip wear, there’s an uneven nail surface that’s prone to chipping – so it’s best to try to maintan an even nail surface.

I hope this helps. Please try it and let me know what you think. πŸ™‚

Great! Thanks for the advice. I am rubbish at moisturising my hands and nails so will make a point of doing that from now! I repainted my nails last night as all gels are off and I used a glitter nail polish…they tend to last an extra day or so but I’ll try the reapplying the top coat on this and see how it lasts. Thanks so much for the advice! I’ll let you know how it goes xx

    Hello!

If you’ve a good base and top coat you can normally get away with a “cheaper” polish. You just need to make sure your nails are prepared properly, all coats are thin and you seal the tips.

Always carry the colour with you for those quick fixes and I tend to file away any white tips!

Although I’ve the Red Carpet LED gel kit – I still love painting them properly!

    Have fun xx

Thanks for reading and thank you for the advice! I’m hoping the OPI top/base thing I’ve bought will work. I painted my nails last night and so far so good πŸ™‚ I find cheaper nail polishes stay on better somehow….the one I have on is a Rimmel one so with the OPI polish under and over I shall see how long this lasts! Thank you xx
