Happy New Year!!!
Last night I stayed home for a change on New Year’s Eve, hence no blog for makeup ….PJs and Snowball cocktails…perfect 🙂
Today I thought I’d have a play with my Urban Decay Full Spectrum Palette and create a look with some bright colours on such a miserably rainy grey day!
Following my usual skincare, I applied the PUR correcting primer that I received in my M&S advent calendar. I like the matte, smooth finish that this gives ready for the next stage of makeup. I then applied a few dots of Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Foundation and blended it using my Beauty Blender. I am still deciding what I think of this foundation but since using a primer that is better suited to my skin, it seems to be working better for me. You can see my initial thoughts on this in my blog #MAKEUPMUSTHAVESCHALLENGE DAY 11
I used my favourite NARS Creamy Concealer under my eyes and again blended this in with my Beauty Blender. Before adding any powder to my skin, I completed my base with the DiorBlush Light & Contour as this is a creamy texture, so I drew my contour and highlight lines on and blended using my Real Techniques Miracle Sponge. I set all of this with my NARS Crystal Translucent Setting Powder and a powder puff, pressing it into my skin to set everything in place. I then went over my whole face using my new powder brush from the Real Techniques Bold Metal brushes and Hourglass’ Ambient Lighting Powder in ‘Dim Light’ and over my contour and Highlight with the shades ‘Radiant Light’ and ‘Incandescent Light’ with my Flat Contour Bold Metals brush.
Moving onto my eyes, I used the Smashbox 24hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer. In honesty, I’m not sure this is right for my eyes as I find it accentuates any creases! I think I need something a little more moisturising. I’m not too worried about this as this was only a deluxe sample size so I don’t feel I’ve wasted a lot of money!
I set the primer with ‘Blow’ from the Urban Decay Ultimate Basics Palette. As I was then thinking about which brights to use, the one mistake I made was not applying a crease colour first but in honesty, the end result turned out in a way I was happy with.
Using the Full Spectrum Palette, I took the shade ‘Goldmine’ which is the lighter yellow-gold from the bottom row and applied that to the inner third of my eyelid, ‘Jones’ (the light orange next to ‘Goldmine’) to the middle of my eyelid and ‘Seize’ (the orange-pink above ‘Jones’) to the outer corner and blended this colour up and into my crease. As I wanted a little more depth to the crease and having missed the transition colour in the first place, I used the darker copper shade from the top row ‘Warning’ and blended this in as a transition colour and also deepened the outer V of my eyelid. I then went back to the matte light shade ‘Blow’ from the Ultimate Basics to blend from my crease up to my brow bone.
Using Scotch-tape I created my winged eyeliner with Urban Decay Razor Sharp Eyeliner in ‘Perversion’- which I’ll put out there now….I had a bit of a fight on my hands when it wasn’t even! Haha! I got there in the end! Then I coated my lashes in Estee Lauder Lash Primer Plus followed by their Sumptuous Extreme Mascara which I love! Brows were done using my usual Gimme Brow by Benefit.
As I had gone quite orangey on my eyes, I thought I’d use my NYX blush in ‘Double Dare’ and for lips, Model Co ‘Stiletto’ which is very red, so I toned this in with my Clinique Liquid Matte Lip in ‘Ripe Pop’.
I then took my big brush that I had used with my finishing powder on and dusted over my whole face to make sure there were no harsh lines or drops of eyeshadow and here is the finished result!
