I’ve tried so many foundations! Some I’ve thought were ‘ok’, some were rubbish! Some however, I’ve loved and have either bought or would love to buy!
My all time favourite purchase has to be Estēe Lauder’s Double Wear for 2 reasons…coverage and long-wear! I have only started using setting powders in the last year or so, but have used this foundation for years without a setting powder and it has been amazing! It has even lasted through a long day of a dance competition…that’s long wear for you! At the very end of the day, I’m a bit shiny, as is seen on any photos I have taken later in the day, but applying it at 6am, I can’t complain if Im a little shiny by 8pm! That said, I will be using it again next weekend for my next competition and will try with a setting powder for review.
I’ve mentioned other foundations in other blogs such as Nars Sheer Glow and Dior Forever, but the one foundation that would be on my ‘I’d like to buy it but its expensive’ list….is Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation.
I had a sample of this from Liberty in London and it has such a lovely texture to it, great coverage and lasted great on a night out. It has a velvet-matte finish so doesn’t leave the skin looking flat or dull. The downside that I found is that it does dry quite quickly so can be hard to blend if you don’t work fast. I used my Sigma flat top kabuki brush to quickly buff it onto my skin. I was given a small pot of this and found that after a couple of uses, the remainder was starting to oxidise….quite probably because it was not in the usual packaging and the contents are open to the air on each use. The usual packaging is a pump so hopefully this wouldn’t happen.
I was also given a sachet of the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer. Very smooth on the skin and claims to help keep makeup looking fresh…perhaps this was the reason the foundation stayed….I can’t be sure as I haven’t used the foundation on it’s own.
The price tag is high for a foundation but Hourglass is a high end brand! As I don’t wear foundation every day, I couldn’t justify the purchase and I would want to buy the primer also.
This may need to be one of those ‘I have no dance lessons booked in the Summer so I’ll treat myself’ type of purchases…but for now, it was nice to have tried it!
