Clinique Moisture Surge – A Review

Moisturisers are one thing I always used to avoid in my skincare ‘routine‘ … I say ‘routine‘ lightly because I didn’t really do much with my skin except wash my face!  In the evening I would remove my makeup and that was about it!  Funnily enough, now if someone says that’s all they do to their skin I shriek in horror and try to calmly suggest what they might want to look at.  Don’t get me wrong,  I am by no means a skincare expert, I know what works for me and I know where I found the information to start a routine for myself and have seen and can feel the improvements in my skin over the years … so, back to moisturisers.

Oily Skin became Combination skin

Having oily skin was the reason I thought I should avoid moisturisers.  I was convinced they were making my skin oily during the day…how wrong was I!  In having oily skin, along with a host of other reasons such as not cleansing properly, using stripping face washes and so on, my skin was also (without me realising) dehydrated.  Using a light moisturiser was one of the main things I needed in my routine but I couldn’t find one that didn’t feel heavy on my skin.  My Sister suggested I try Clinique’s Moisture Surge, and whilst it isn’t the only change that I made, it is a constant in my daily skincare…probably the only thing that with the exception of trialing new products, I always go back to it.  I would now describe my skin as combination because it isn’t what I would have once described as an oil slick, but I have the usual slightly oily T-zone and have come to accept that the skin can have a ‘glow’!

You’ll find a Clinique Moisture Surge in my daily routine even if everything else changes!

Moisture Surge

The Moisture Surge moisturiser is a lovely lightweight gel formula which absorbs really well into my skin, leaving it perfectly prepared for makeup.  Having used this now for around 3 years, I can honestly say it’s the best moisturiser I’ve used and have also now compared the newer version which is the 72hour Hydration formula.  I wasn’t sure at first when I read about it that I would notice a difference, but I genuinely do.

Activated with aloe water, it is said to keep skin almost twice as hydrated than the previous version.

What it does
  • Hydrates the skin for 72 hours, continuously working even after washing your face.
  • Immediately hydrates the skin and provides long-term hydration helping to plump the skin.
  • Helps skin to stay soft and comfortable in changing climates.
  • Helps restore the skin’s moisture balance and protect against environmental damage.

I always end up purchasing this when it is on offer or if I am in Duty Free, I tend to buy a set that usually contains the spray version, which is a great spritz of hydration for any point of the routine or during the day, under or over makeup.  The All About Eyes roll on is so cooling and soothing, especially when it is kept in the fridge, equally the All About Eyes cream is rich and hydrating for my dry under eyes without being heavy or interfering with my concealer.

Supercharged Concentrate

Another product in the Moisture Surge range which I’ve really enjoyed using is the Hydrating Supercharged Concentrate.  It is a very water-lightweight gel but gives the skin a hydrating boost.  I was using this under the previous version of the Moisture Surge but have found during the summer and with using the new 72hr Hydration version of the moisturiser, I haven’t needed it.  That said, it may well be something I add back in during the winter months.

In case you haven’t guessed already, I am a huge fan of Moisture Surge, which is why I thought I would write a blog purely about this one product / range as I do mention it fairly frequently!   It has already been in a few ’empties’ posts and no doubt this open pot will be featuring again in one soon!
