The Beauty Tag

I saw this post on All Things Alexyss and thought I would give it a go too!  I won’t tag anyone by name to take part as I am bound to miss someone off that might like to do it so I nominate everyone who loves makeup to do this beauty tag 🙂

Do you remember your first makeup item?
Yes!  My Mum bought me a Clinique concealer as I have a scar on my face that I was being bullied about in junior school (aged around 11 – kids can be cruel!) so I got a concealer to help cover it up a bit.

What kind of coverage do you prefer from a foundation?
I have always preferred a full coverage and a matte finish with foundation but that is because I was never really happy with my skin.  It’s always been oily and I suffered with acne in my teens but since I have learned more about skincare, my skin has obviously improved and I actually prefer a medium coverage with a demi-matte finish – it does make a difference in the skin in that it looks like it has more life to it!

Estee Lauder Double Wear

Favourite high-end brand?
Too many to mention!  I love Hourglass and wish I had more of their products!

Sephora8

What cosmetics brands have you always wanted to try but still haven’t?
I would love to try Armani as their foundation looks great!

Favourite drugstore brand?
My most recent drugstore product was the Rimmel Match Perfection & Stay Matte which I have just posted about as sent to me by Influenster.  The foundation and concealer are great!  Much better than I expected them to be!

Do you wear false lashes?
Generally only for dance competitions!  I have started wearing them on nights out where I am getting dressed up and doing a heavy makeup look but day to day I don’t!

Is there any kind of makeup you can’t leave the house without?
BB cream as a minimum and bronzer…I think if I have even just a bit of bronzer on, my face doesn’t look so pale.

What is your most cherished beauty product?
I have no idea how to answer that!!!

How often do you shop for makeup? Do you like to pick up an item here and there, or get lots of goodies at once?
There’s no pattern to how I shop for makeup.  I replace when I need to but does also depend on what I see.  I try to avoid impulse buying as I’ve made a lot of mistakes in doing that.

Do you have a “beauty budget” or do you spend freely?
Budget – but I tend to budget anyway!  I also think of everything I buy in terms of dance lessons … ooh ok so if I spend £100 on this I get this free….but then I could have also had X amount of dance lessons for that price and I really need to crack this samba!  Haha!  (This didn’t apply in New York…as per the photo below!)

Do you utilize coupons, reward cards, and sales when you shop for cosmetics?
Yes, as much as I can!!  I am glad that Boots started selling premium brands in beauty as I save my points from my general shop in there to spend on Clinique!

What type of product do you buy the most of?
This is a difficult one too!  I am set with certain products such as my eyeliners but I think I have lots of different makeup so it’s hard to tell!

Is there a brand you absolutely can’t stand?
Not that I have found yet!  I don’t think you have to like the products to like a brand as such (sounds odd I know!) because not everything will suit everyone so I would base a ‘brand’ likability mostly in their customer service!  I always have though as I value good customer service.  Obviously for me to buy from a brand I then have to like their products so to date I don’t think there’s a brand I can’t stand!

Do you avoid certain ingredients in cosmetics, like parabens or sulfates?
I reduced my exposure to parabens when my Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago (all fine now!) So parabens and sulphates I wouldn’t say I categorically don’t use them because they’re in so many things.  I am avoiding parabens in skincare or anything that is close to my skin such as foundation, SPF and so on.   My preference is always paraben-free.

Do you have a favourite place to shop for makeup?
When I was in New York I would say Sephora is my favourite makeup shop but I don’t think I have one favourite!  😛

Do you like trying new skin care products or do you keep a certain routine?
Haha, if you follow my blog or indeed my Instagram (especially my stories!) you will see that I LOVE to try new skincare!  I have a basic routine in that I always cleanse in the morning and double cleanse at night (unless I’ve been home all day and not worn makeup or SPF then it will be a single PM cleanse) followed by a toner of some kind – either acid then hydration or just hydration, eye cream, then serums (water based first), then in the morning, Moisturiser followed by SPF and in the evening Retinoid followed by oil or just moisturiser.  I base it on what I think my skin needs.

Favourite bath and body brand?
I have a few favourite shower products at the moment – again featured on my Instagram… Dr Paw Paw body wash, Rosie for Autograph, Nuxe shower oil – all smell absolutely amazing!

What brand do you think has the best packaging?
I love the packaging of Charlotte Tilbury but also Rosie for Autograph which is similar with the rose gold element.  I love the magnetic close of the Rosie lipsticks.

Do you belong to any online makeup communities?
Not makeup but skincare yes … check out the Deciem and Ordinary Chatroom on Facebook.

Favourite beauty gurus
Caroline Hirons, Wayne Goss, Nadine Baggott, Trinny Woodall to name a few!

Do you like multi-functional products like lip and cheek stains?
Yes…in fact my favourite at the moment is by Rosie for Autograph and is featured in this blog:  Rosie for Autograph collection

Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?
Yes!  Only on me though … I am a Makeup Artist!  On a client I can create looks much easier than on myself!  Haha!

Do you use makeup base/primer for the eyes?
Yes, I used to always use silicone based primers but I’m loving more hydrating primers at the moment.  I also use eye primers especially if I want a look to last all day or all evening.

How many hair products do you use on a typical day?
Apart from washing my hair every other day, I don’t really pay much attention to my hair!!

What do you apply first, concealer or foundation?
Foundation, then concealer where I feel I need it.

Would you ever consider taking makeup classes?
I am a Makeup Artist!  I took classes to gain my certificate!

What do you love about makeup?                                                                                                        I love the fact that it can make you feel better and give you more confidence!  I don’t think it’s just about having a smoky eye or a bold lip, it’s more about how it makes you feel.

So there you have it…my beauty tag answers!  I’d love to see your answers so let me know if you take part!!
