Rimmel Match Perfection & Stay Matte

Before I start this post I have to point out that I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

I joined Influenster just over a year ago and back in July last year I was super excited to be part of their first Voxbox campaign in the UK for Max Factor … fast forward to May this year and I got an email to say I was in their campaign for Rimmel so I couldn’t wait to see what would be in the box this time!

So what did I get?

  • Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation in shade ‘Light Porcelain’
  • Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer in shade ‘Light Porcelain’
  • Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour in shade ‘Stripped’
  • Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour in shade ‘Be My Baby’
  • Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour in shade ‘Plunge’

I was keen to try the foundation and concealer especially given that I tend to have high end brand foundations in my makeup draw so I wanted to compare how the Rimmel one looked and wore on my skin.

The foundation was a perfect shade match for me, which I was really surprised about!   When I found out I was being sent a foundation I was curious as to whether I had ticked the right shade having not seen the product.

The pump style bottle dispenses a decent amount of product, I tend to use one pump then if I feel I need it go back in for another.  The coverage is light to medium but as a lightweight foundation it doesn’t feel like there is a lot of makeup on my face which then lead me to questioning the longevity of it on my oily/combo skin!  The day I received it was when I had a 2 hour dance class in the evening.  I always use a primer and setting powder anyway with all of my foundations so I did the same with this and went to class.  To me if a foundation can survive dance it’s a good one! Haha!   It survived the evening and still looked good late into the evening.  I have also found that this makes for a good daytime foundation for general wear.  I am set in my ways for foundations that I need to last all day such as dance competitions, it would take a lot to get me away from my Estee Lauder Double Wear!

With shades to match 99% of UK skin tones, Match Perfection Foundation blends with skin’s real tone instead of masking it. This weightless, smooth textured foundation delivers visibly perfected and healthier looking skin.   Smart-tone technology for natural looking results.  24HR moisture complex.  Soft-focus powers help reduce imperfections, pores & dark circles.  Up to SPF 20 Rimmel London

I am quite fussy when it comes to concealers…I guess I’m fussy with a lot of makeup, but I suppose that’s more just a case of me knowing what I like on my skin!  The Match Perfection concealer has a brush applicator which I do like but I then use my beauty blender to blend it in.  It doesn’t provide a huge amount of coverage so if you have very dark under-eyes you would want a colour corrector underneath but I found it provided enough coverage for me to be happy with.  I also liked the fact that although this is a very light shade, I was able to use this when I had my spray tan and dance competition makeup on and it blended really well with my darker foundation and gave a decent highlight to my eye area.

I do like to wear Matte lipsticks but again, another area I am fussy on.  My lips tend to be dry and most matte liquid lipsticks look awful on me!

‘Plunge’    ‘Be my baby’   ‘Stripped’

Only one of these shades suited me and that was the middle shade ‘Be my Baby’.   ‘Stripped’ was too light and pale for me and made my lips look completely washed out.  ‘Plunge’ on the other hand was the opposite end of the spectrum and was far too dark for me!  The formula is nice, not too drying but I don’t find them moisturising either.  The doe-foot applicator makes for easy application but I did find them a little streaky.  Two coats however and the coverage is perfectly fine!

My overall thoughts

I really enjoyed reviewing these products.  I have continued to use the foundation and concealer plus the ‘Be my baby’ shade of lipstick.  These products are all ones that I use for day to day makeup looks and the foundation has become my go-to for a speedy makeup because it applies so well!

Would I repurchase?

I will definitely repurchase at least the foundation.  I have other concealers that I want to try but I can certainly recommend this one.  I don’t think I would purchase the lipsticks but again if you’re someone who likes matte lipsticks (and are perhaps prepared to apply a couple of layers for a good coverage) then these will be fine for you!

You sign up and complete reviews on products. Every so often they match boxes and people based on their profiles and if chosen from a pre campaign survey they send out a box of whatever it is they want reviewed. You then complete a series of tasks to gain points to earn badges on your profile. Things like blog posts, Instagram posts, Facebook etc. There’s a UK version and USA version. Check it out!! X

I’m so sad that Rimmel no longer sells their 24hr long lasting foundation with the red top…I need to try their other foundations to see which one I like the best and I’ll start with this one!
