Antipodes – innovative, organic skincare

As a self-confessed skincare addict, I am always tempted by new, innovative and scientific products, so when I received a lovely parcel containing four Antipodes products, I was keen to find out more about the brand and also super excited to try them out!

Antipodes is a New Zealand based brand which is one of the few companies in the world that is a fully certified organic skincare provider.  Founder Elizabeth Barbalich’s knowledge and experience has lead to a brand dedicated to creating products using a combination of scientific research and high quality, sustainably sourced, organic ingredients.

The products that I received easily make up a perfect evening set routine which I have used them as however I have found that they have fit perfectly into both my morning and evening routines as I rotate many of my skincare products so it just depends what I want to use each day.

Juliet Skin Brightening Gel Cleanser

Antipodes Skincare Juliet Skin-brightening Gel cleanser

The Gel cleanser is targeted towards oilier skin but is said to be suitable for most skin types.  The glorious ingredient list contains:

Kiwi seed oil which is high in Omega 3 and Vitamins C & E for improving elasticity and helping to reduce fine lines.

Manuka Honey is an ingredient that I love seeing in skincare as it is well known for being a superfood.  When I am unwell, Manuka honey is what I reach for to have in hot water with lemon because of the healing properties.  In skincare it helps promote healing of blemished and irritated skin.

Vinanza Grape & Kiwi targets redness and pigmentation issues therefore helping the appearance of skin.

My thoughts:  As a gel cleanser, this is a great morning cleanse or second PM cleanse after makeup / spf removal.  It has a lovely scent to it thanks to Green Apple and Cardamon pod making it a lovely fresh cleanser.  My skin tends to be oilier in the Summer and as I generally rotate alot of my skincare, this is something I would use more in the warmer months.  That said, it doesn’t dry my skin out or make it feel tight like some cleansers aimed at oily skin can.  My skin feels clean and soft after use making it something I would use regularly.

Aura Manuka Honey Mask

Antipodes Skincare Aura Manuka Honey MaskI love masks!  It is as simple as that!  I probably don’t use them as often as I should but when I get time to relax in the bath, that’s when the masks go on!

Another lovely lineup for the ingredients including Manuka Honey of course as detailed above.  In addition to this, it also includes:

Pohutukawa which I had never heard of before!!  A highly moisturising, conditioning and antiseptic bioactive extract from New Zealand that helps to promote cell regeneration.

Vanilla Pod , something which again I knew nothing about in skincare terms, only cooking terms!  It is said to heal dry skin and can help slow signs of ageing with wrinkles and fine lines thanks to it’s antioxidant capabilities.

My Thoughts:  I absolutely LOVE this mask!  The scents of Vanilla and Mandarin are wonderfully relaxing.  I apply this after cleansing a couple of times a week and relax for 15minutes before washing it off where it leaves my skin so soft!!  I know that constantly touching your skin is not good but after using this mask I can’t help it!!  😛

Worship Skin Defence Antioxidant Serum

Antipodes Skincare Worship Skin Defence Antioxidant serum

I love the way the instructions tell you to ‘Worship your face, neck and décolletage daily…’ Antioxidant and Serum are two words I am very interested in at the moment as I use a few different serums on rotation and antioxidants are known for their playing their part in anti-ageing skincare.   It smells lovely thanks to the Wild Blackcurrant and Boysenberry Fruit.  The main ingredients in this serum are:

Vinanza Oxifend Plus – Antioxidants which help protect the skin from external aggressors and to maximise skin health.

Coffee Cherry, another fabulous antioxidant to help protect skin against free radicals.

Acai Berry which are also a mega ingredient known for it’s antioxidant properties along with Vitamins A, C and E to help improve overall skin health.

My Thoughts:  This serum is different to others that I currently use…one of the main differences being just how quickly it is absorbed into my skin.  It layers perfectly with other serums but it also perfect for those days where I am in a rush and still want to layer skincare but don’t necessarily have time to allow oily serums to absorb fully.  As with the other products, this leaves my skin feeling soft and prepped for moisturiser.

Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream

Antipodes Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream

I never used to get on with night creams, perhaps using the wrong ones or just thought that they were responsible for my skin being so oily in the mornings…either way I stopped using them!  I started using a night cream again in the last year or so since changing my skincare routine and my skin loves it.  This Avocado Pear Nourishing Night cream is one I had heard great reviews about so was excited to try it!  Ingredients wise, this super thick cream contains:

Avocado Oil which is high in nutrients to help hydrate skin, increase collagen production and keep skin in overall good condition.

Manuka Honey and Vinanza Grape as per the cleanser for overall skin health and antioxidant properties.

My Thoughts:  I have to be honest or the blog would be pointless!  When I first used this, I wasn’t sure I would like it at all.  It is a very thick, rich cream that takes a while to absorb into my skin (not necessarily a bad thing!).  In the name of all things skincare blogging I thought that I’ll just leave it on my skin and judge it more in the morning.  OMGOSH…the following morning my skin felt and (in my opinion) looked so fresh!!  I love the smell of this cream, Ylang Ylang, Sandalwood leaf and Jasmine Petal – all three amazing scents.  I have continued to use this in rotation with other products I use but could easily use this every night!  Antipodes Avocado Pear Nourishing Night CreamOverall thoughts on Antipodes skincare products

I am, as I’ve mentioned before, a bit of a skincare addict and I love trying new things.  All four of these products have fitted into varying routines with other products (perhaps where I’ve used a different cleanser or alongside other serums) and work wonderfully in their own little routine too.  In my previous posts I have talked about how I rotate my skincare products depending on how my skin feels.  I would highly recommend not only these products but Antipodes as a brand.  I barely knew much about the brand prior to checking these products out but the ethos, the history, the science and the ingredients in their products make them a brand you’ll want to check out for yourself!  My oily / combo skin has been absolutely fine with these products and I plan to keep them in my routines!  The Antipodes Website is full of more information and products to check out!Antipodes Skincare

These all sound like gorgeous products and I love that they’re certified organic. Being a lover of natural skincare, they sound right up my street. I’ve not heard of it before but will have to investigate further!

I’ve been curious about the Aura Manuka Honey Mask. I bet it feels so amazing on the skin.
I’d imagine the Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream would be great for the winter months when my skin is dry. Thanks for your honesty in your reviews – it’s so important!
