Skincare Revisited – Evening Routine

Following on from my post on my morning routine which you can find here, here is my evening routine which has also changed slightly since my previous skincare post.

The first step to my evening regime will depend on whether I have been wearing makeup and spf.  If I have been home all day and haven’t worn either then step 1 will be missed as ‘double cleansing’ isn’t needed!  I have learnt a lot about skin care routines, double cleansing, double toning etc from Skincare expert and blogger extraordinaire Caroline Hirons who’s blog and Youtube I follow.

  1.  Clinique Take the day off cleansing Balm (First cleanse)

I reviewed this cleansing balm separately as I was so impressed with it!  Have a read of Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm for a full review but honestly, it is the best thing I have used to remove all stubborn makeup, gently, yet effectively!

2.  Emma Hardie Amazing Face Moringa Cleansing Balm (Second cleanse, or first cleanse if no makeup or spf worn)

Another cleanser that I have been raving about as you will have seen if you read my blog Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm…a further review – if not, go!!!  It really is amazing.  It smells divine and leaves my skin feeling amazingly soft.  I can’t see this not being in my routine for the foreseeable!!

3.  Acid Toner

I am currently loving the Pixi Glow Tonic but I also interchange this with Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Night Pads.    Acid toning is a newer stage of my skincare regime so I have started quite easy with the glow tonic as it contains 5% glycolic acid but it has made a difference to my skin.  The pads by Nip & Fab contain 5% glycolic also, but alongside that, they contain salicylic acid to help congested skin, and lactic acid which helps to weaken the bond holding dead skin cells together.  I expected that these would have a stronger reaction on my skin given the mix of acids but there were no negative effects whatsoever and if anything, on the nights that I use these (usually every other night to make sure my skin gets used to them) my skin feels soft and clean.  I bought these when they were on offer at £5.00 as they usually retail at £14.95 but I would still pay the higher price for them as I feel they are working well with my skin.

4.  Moisturising Toner

I covered detail of the Rodial Dragon’s Blood Hyaluronic Tonic in my post quite a while ago #MAKEUPMUSTHAVESCHALLENGE DAY 13 – Skincare!   The rose water and hyaluronic acid contained in this makes my skin feel soft, refreshed and prepped for serums.  It’s a lovely burst of hydration and very refreshing.

5.  Serums

I have included serums in quite a few of my posts recently so I won’t go into to much detail but at night time I use any of, or a combination of the following:

The Ordinary ‘Buffet’   /   The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid & B5    /   The Ordinary Advanced Retinoid 2%     /     Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum

I don’t use all of these on the same night but usually I will use the first two, then follow with either the Retinoid or the Advanced Night Repair.  The Ordinary say that you can use upto 3 of their formulations in a row which is fine, but then I feel adding the repair serum over the top is pointless!  There was no adverse reaction when I did pile it all on, I just don’t see the point in wasting product applying everything when it isn’t all needed!

If you want more information on the serums from The Ordinary, check out my post on them, The Ordinary Skincare

6.  Eye Cream

I asked recently at the Clinique counter in Boots, what would be the best product if I wanted to step my eye cream up…after using All About Eyes for a while, which is a lovely, soft, gel eye cream but with fine lines appearing I need more!   The Repairwear laser focus eye cream was recommended to me.  This cream is hydrating and since using it I have found that my eye area is softer, more hydrated and whilst I don’t expect miracles from any skin care or makeup product, I do think that the skin around my eyes is starting to look and feel better.  I used to use 2 different creams for under my eyes, one in the morning and one at night, mainly because I felt I couldn’t use a thicker eye cream during the day under makeup.  Although I am talking night time skincare here, I have to say, this product is great during the day and doesn’t ball up under makeup!

7.  Moisturiser

Formula Absolute Sleep Cream  is a gorgeous night time cream.  It is a very thick cream which I didn’t think I would like but since trying it in my advent calendar back in December, I was hooked!  So much so that I was so disappointed when it was completely sold out throughout Marks and Spencer within a day of it being subject to a 20% off beauty offer!   My local store managed to get hold of 2 on a delivery and the lovely lady in there held them both for me 🙂  Never before have I been so chuffed to get a call to say a sleep cream has arrived! Hahaha!  Have a read of my review!

So that is my nighttime routine!  I fully anticipate my routine to change in line with my skin’s needs however this series of steps seems to work well for me.  I cannot imagine a simple face wash and moisturise now!!  Double cleansing, double toning, serums and other creams may seem like a lot to some but then there are regimes out there with 10 steps to them.  As with all beauty, skincare, makeup, whatever it is, you have to go with what works for you!  This routine, be it these products or others, works for me and my skin so these are just my thoughts.

Have you tried any of these products in your routine?  I’d love to know your thoughts 🙂

Funny you should say hat about the All About Eyes, I’ve found that it has stopped working for me now and was looking for an alternative. Will see f I can get a tester of the Repairwear instead. Thanks!

I always admire people who got the patience to take proper care of their skin every evening. I usually stick to the minimum because I just want to get to bed quick 😀 I might need to invest more time in it. Great routine!

I’ve recently written about my evening skincare routine as well! You can check it out here: http://theglassofclass.com/evening-skincare-routine/ Thanks!
