I received this 50ml sample of Alpha-H Liquid Gold in my M&S beauty advent calendar which I wrote a blog on when I got it here: 25 DAYS OF BLOGGING – COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS, DAY 8 have a read 🙂
This was one product that I was really looking forward to trying as it’s a cult beauty product which has a following of amazing reviews and very few negative reviews from what I have read.
On the day that I got this product I had already been trying out lots of new things in terms of skin care and didn’t want to freak my skin out too much so decided to wait. I used this a few nights ago so thought I would share my thoughts on it.
I tend to find some ‘cult’ products on me, for whatever reason, just don’t live up to the hype (one of which I will be blogging about very soon! )
It claims to be: A powerful overnight ‘serum’, Alpha-H’s bestselling, multiple award-winning Liquid Gold looks more like a toner – a clear liquid, whose appearance belies its remarkable efficacy. An ‘overnight facial’, the pioneering formula (it was originally developed in 2000, and was the very first of its kind) is a phenomenal, leave on, ‘sleep in’ liquid peel, which swiftly (and dramatically) revitalises dulled, ageing skin that’s lost its lustre, whilst gradually lessening the visibility of fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, blackheads, blemishes, pigmentation, scarring and redness. In fact, there’s virtually nothing this skin care miracle can’t accomplish! Taken from the Cult Beauty Website
After cleansing my face with my usual Estee Lauder Perfectly Clean face wash (not with my sonic brush as I thought that would be too much for my skin to follow with the Liquid Gold. I then took a cotton wool pad and put some of the product onto it and wiped it across my face, avoiding my eye area and lips. The instructions suggest that you can then continue and apply a night time moisturiser or for a more intense effect, leave the product to work overnight without any more products being applied over the top.
I applied it to my skin and didn’t apply anything else on top. I was expecting some kind of tingling/stinging sensation because a lot of resurfacing products do, but there wasn’t, so part of me did think this was going to be another ‘I don’t think it’s worth the hype’ products if it wasn’t going to work. It is very much like a toner, in that it is a thin liquid, personally I felt it had a slightly greasy texture to it but nothing over-bearing.
The next morning, to touch, my skin felt slightly greasy, but in fairness, that’s nothing new for me although I have found lately using a night cream that I also got in my calendar (review soon!) my skin has been more normal of a morning. Anyway, my skin felt so smooth and my usually larger pores across my nose and cheeks felt smooth and refined.
I cleansed my skin as normal, again with the Perfectly Clean cleanser (without brush!) and felt my skin again. It felt cleaner and softer than after any mask or cleanser I have used previously! I continued with my morning skincare routine which I have changed slightly to include Rodial Dragon’s Blood Tonic spray which again I will review separately, but just for that added moisture I have added that in as a second toner into my routine. I did also make sure that I used my UltraSun SPF afterwards which again came in the calendar! (I will review the whole calendar again soon to let you know which products I did and didn’t like after using them for a while.)
I am definitely with the ravers on this product, however I wouldn’t want to use it too often for fear of stripping my skin completely which in turn leads to other problems but I will continue to use this and would expect given the amount of it I needed to use, this sample size will last me a while!

Glad you liked it, I knew you would! I agree with you though and wouldn’t use it for long periods, I tend to use it for a month or so or just when my skin needs it. Good for you using your Ultrasun too!! One of my all time faves! 😍

I’ve just started with Pixi Glow Tonic too but only in the evenings in place of my step 2 Clinique toner. Only used it once so far but it was really nice. I’ll blog about it when I’ve used it more 🙂 x

I also hlave this ready to use once my current acid toner that I use at night time is finished (hopefully very soon). I am also interesting how my oily skin reacts to it as it is supposed to be stronger than the one I have now.

Which one do you have now? This is only the second acid I’ve used and the other was the Rodial Skin Peel which is different to this but does a similar job I guess. I bet you’ll like it if you have oily skin 🙂 xx

It’s a lot stronger than you expect right, because of how light the texture is. xx

Yes! Also the fact it doesn’t feel like its burning your skin too! xx

I tried this and loved it but after awhile my skin started breaking out 😱😢 so I stopped using it. My skin felt amazing at the start but I’m too scared to try again. Great post by the way.

Thanks for reading! It’s a good resurfacing product. I don’t use it a lot because I have other acids that I use now but my skin feels lovely when I do use it 💕
